Sasaram : Students of Government Middle School, Dahiyadhi, under Karakat block in Rohtas district study in their classrooms sitting on the floor even during winter season. This school has its own building but in the absence of furniture like bench and desk, the students are forced to sit on the floor.
The school has 335 students but only six teachers to teach them. There is no one to teach Sanskrit. Due to shortage of teachers, sometimes two classes are combined. In this background, teaching in school is adversely affected. Despite having its own building, the school administration prefers to hold classes in the open outside the classroom.
Students Puja Kumari, Smita Kumari and Alok Kumar said that their study is affected as classes are not held regularly due to shortage of teachers. The students have to sit on the floor even during winter season because the school has no bench and desk and other furniture, they alleged. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Headmaster of the school, said that he had written to the education department several times to increase the number of teachers and furniture but nothing has so far been made in this regard.
District Programme Officer Awadhesh Kumar Singh said that fund for furniture was allotted and the same was given to other schools and next time fund will be given to this school too. He said all the vacancies of teachers will be filled up very soon.
