Gopalganj: Gopalganj police stumbled on a gang, which used to conceal liquor in water tanks on rooftops, and then supplied them to the customers. Acting on a tip off about this clandestine trade, Gopalganj SP Ravi Ranjan Kumar constituted a police team, which conducted raid at the house of one Manish Kumar at Sareya late on September 22 night. The cops were stunned to find 251 bottles of IMFL hidden in water tank.

Gopalganj SP said on Friday that police arrested Shashikant Kumar, a native of village Bharkuiyan under Barauli police station, Santosh Kumar, a resident of Sareya ward number-5, and Manish Singh. He said that police also seized Rs 27,000 cash besides a bike from the possession of the arrested persons.

The SP said that the arrested persons used to work as delivery boys providing liquor safely after getting orders from their clients. He said that the police are looking for over half a dozen persons including Vijay Kumar, Chuman Kumar, Sonu Kumar, Kundan Singh and Bullet Yadav, all engaged in this trade. Later, the arrested persons were forwarded to jail by the Town police station on Friday evening.

It may be mentioned here that after the state government enforced prohibition on April 5 this year, the habitual boozers are trying to bring the liquor by adopting “jugar technology.”  Several such persons had been arrested for concealing liquor bottles or sachets in gas cylinders, vegetable baskets or in transport vehicles.
