Gopalganj: The court of ADJ-6 on Monday rejected the bail petitions of the accused of Khajurbanni liquor tragedy in Gopalganj district after hearing the arguments of the lawyers of both sides.

Special Public Prosecutor Ravi Bhushan Srivastava opposed the bail petitions of the accused describing the incident as most gruesome. The court after going through the documents including case diary and chargesheet submitted by  police rejected the bail petitions of the accused.

It may be mentioned here that the accused:  Chatu Pasi, Ranjay Pasi, Sanjay Pasi, Sanoj Pasi, Munna Pasi and Rajesh Pasi,had filed their bail petitions through their lawyer Ved Prakash Tiwary in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Gopalganj,  on September 1. The court on September 2 had rejected their bail petitions.

On September 9, the accused had filed bail petitions in the court of the District and Sessions Judge. The court transferred the case to the court of ADJ for hearing where the defence lawyer quoting the FIR said that the cops got the information about the incident on August 16-17 night and raid was carried out at Khajurbanni the same night. He  argued that the accused were kept in police confinement for 48 hours as they were sent to jail on August 19 even as  no liquor was found from the houses of the accused. He said that liquor was dug out from field and those fields did not belong to the accused. However, one Bandhu Ram, who has lost his eyesight, had told the police that he had consumed liquor at the house of Nagina Pasi.
