Gopalganj: The court of  Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Gopalganj, on Thursday rejected the bail petitions of two women accused  in Khajurbanni liquor tragedy case that had rocked the state in August, this year. The  two women accused-Reeta Devi and Indu Devi-had surrendered before he CJM court on September 19.

Defence lawyer Ved Prakash Tiwary on Thursday pleaded before the court that police did not seize anything objectionable from the houses of the two women accused and the cops had not mentioned anything about the recovery in the seizure list from their houses. He said that liquor was found at an open space. on Tiwary further argued that since both the women belong to Pasi caste and are residents of village Khajurbanni, the cops made them accused in the case.

However, the Public Prosecutor said that several persons had lost their lives after consuming liquor at Khajurbanni on August 15-16 while five persons lost their eye-sights and several others were taken ill. He said that both the women accused were also involved in the crime.

After hearing the argument of both the lawyers, the CJM rejected the bail petitions of both the women.The defence lawyer said that he would now appeal before the court of the District and Sessions Judge.
