Sasaram: Girl students of Anjabit Singh College, Bikramganj, under Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara,  in Rohtas district have to stay in costly rented houses to pursue their study in the college even as the college has its own girls’ hostel. The college administration never allots seats to girl students in the hostel though the construction of the building was completed seven years back.

University Grant Commission (UGC) had sanctioned Rs 7.45 lakh for the construction of a girls’ hostel on the campus of Anjabit Singh College, Bikramganj, in the financial year 2008-2009 and the hostel building was completed in 2009 and the contractor handed over the hostel building to the college administration the same year. The Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, inaugurated the girls’ hostel building on December 15, 2015, but still the hostel is not being allotted to anyone. Admission for the new session has started but the students were not informed whether the hostel will be allotted or not.

College source said that the college administration has neither appointed a warden nor a cook for the hostel so far. Altogether 20 applications have so far been received for the 60 bed hostel but the college administration did not bother to consider a single application.

Principal, Anjabit Singh College, Jawahar Lal, said that students who are taking admission in the new session have been informed that the hostel facility is available in the college and even those student who have applied earlier for the hostel are being called. He said that hostel will be allotted to students this time.
