Patna : World No 8 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, 23, Indonesia, stunned top seed and World No 1 Kento Momota, 25, Japan, in the quarter-finals of Yonex French Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, at Paris, France, on October 25, 2019. Kento Momota has won 30 career titles while Ginting has won only three titles.

Ginting beat reigning World Champion Momota in straight games 21-10, 21-19 in 43 minutes to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament. Ginting won 42 rallies in the match to 29 by Momota.  Both the players won 5 consecutive points each in the match. Momota, however, still leads Ginting 10-4 Head to Head.

World No 4 and reigning Olympic Champion Chen Long, 30, China, beat World No Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, 25, Indonesia, in straight games to enter the SFs of the tournament. Fifth seed Chen Long, who has won 30 career titles, beat Rhustavito 21-19, 21-12 in 44 minutes in the QFs. The Chinese won 42 rallies in the match to 31 by the Indonesian. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Rhustavito. It was first meeting between the two players. Chen had won World Championship title in 2014 and 2015.
