Patna : World No 8 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, 23, Indonesia, on November 16, 2019, upset reigning Asian Games Champion and World No 6 Jonatan Christies, 22, Indonesia, in a three-game marathon in semi-finals lasting 81 minutes to enter the final of Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event. Ginting will face World No 27 Lee Cheuk Yiu, 23, Hong Kong, in the final on November 17, 2019.

Ginting, the 8th seed, beat 6th seed Jonatan Christie 22-20, 13-21, 21-18 in the semi-finals at Hong Kong Coliseum, Hong Kong. Christie was leading 18-17 in the third game but thereafter Ginting won 4 consecutive points to win the match. Ginting won 56 rallies in the match to 59 by Christie. But, Ginting won 10 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Christie, who had reached the final of BWF French Open in October 2019 while Ginting had lost in the SFs.. The two players are now locked 3-3 Head to Head.

Unseeded Lee Cheuk Yiu upset World No 13 Kidambi Srikanth, 26, India, in straight games 21-9, 25-23 in 42 minutes in the semi-finals. Lee won 46 rallies in the match to 32 by Srikanth. Lee won 5 consecutive points to 4 by Srikanth. The two players are now locked 1-1 Head to Head.
