Patna: A Patna Police team on Thursday arrested a ganja dealer Shyam Babu near Patna Junction. Police said that recently, Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharaaj had issued directives to all SHOs of the district to initiate a drive against wanted criminals and those recently released from jail. He had also warned of stern action against SHOs if they were found wanting in duty.

Police said that on Thursday, the SSP received information that a ganja dealer was coming to Patna Junction by Ganga-Damodar Express. He immediately passed on the information to SHO, Jakkanpur police station, who reached the spot and arrested Shyam Babu with 6 kg ganja.

SSP Maharaaj said that acting on the revelations made by the arrested person, a police team later arrested Deepak Kumar alias Raja, a liquor supplier and associate of Shyam Babu with two bottles of liquor. He said that during interrogation, the arrested persons told the police that they used to procure ganja  from Tripura and supplied them to agents of Patna, Ara and Jehanabad. Both the arrested persons told the police that they also used to supply narcotic to other cities of the state as after prohibition the consumption of ganja has increased.
