Ara: The water level of river Ganga is rising again by 0.5 cm per hour under Barhara block in Bhojpur district due to intermittent rain makin the people living in the area near Koelwar-Buxar embankment apprehensive.

The people had heaved a sigh of relief after the water level of Ganga and Sone receded but since Friday evening, the water level of river Ganga started rising. Banas and Kumahari rivers are in spate and their water has spread over to the low lying areas.

The flood water has overtopped the Chandi-Zamira-Ara main road and snapped communication of over a dozen villages from the district headquarters. Power supply has been stopped in the area forcing the people to spend life in darkness. If the rising trend continues, communication with Sandesh too may be snapped. Erosion in Kewatia, Balua and Mauzampur villages under Barhara block by river Ganga is also continues at a fast pace and the river with the river engulfing lands forcing people to shift to safer places.

Meanwhile, Ara MP R K Singh visited the erosion affected areas like Piparpati, Kewatia, Balua under Barhara block on Friday and also interacted with the flood affected people of the area and directed the officials to restart relief work in the areas. He also directed them to spray bleaching powder and distribute medicines among the people.
