Muzaffarpur : The gang rape of a 14 year old girl at village Nawada under Katra police station in Muzaffarpur district on September 28, 2017, by four youth when she was returning from a Mela ( Fair) has rocked the district. The four youth had also made a video of the incident and threatened to make it viral if she reports the matter to police. The survivor belongs to a village under Gaighat police station in the district and had come to Nawada, her brother’s in-laws’ place, on Durga Puja.

A named FIR against seven persons was lodged with Katra police station on October 1, 2017, on the statement of the girl, whose statement under section 164 of  CrPC was recorded before a magistrate the same day, said SSP, Muzaffarpur, Vivek Kumar, adding her medical examination was also done the same day. The SSP said that a seven-member police team headed by DSP, East, Gaurav Pandey, has started investigation into the incident. The team is conducting raids at different places to arrest the named accused, the SSP said.  Five persons have been detained in this connection to know from them the whereabouts of the accused, the SSP said.

The SSP said that of the seven named accused in the FIR, four had gangraped the girl while the other three had tried to prevent the girl from taking the matter to police and insisted on a panchayat on the matter. A panchayat was also held at the village but nothing came out of it. The SSP said that when police came to know about the gang rape of the girl, they encouraged the girl to lodge an FIR with police. The SSP said that once the accused were arrested the video footage of the incident would also be seized. He said that the report of the medical examination of the girl was yet to reach police.
