Begusarai : Police on June 17, 2017, seized 100 cartons of foreign liquor meant for home delivery to customers and arrested four liquor smugglers including the kingpin Phulena Rai from different places in Shanti Dwar area under Muffassil police station in Begusarai district.
Confirming the arrest of four liquor smugglers, Begusarai SP Ranjit Kumar Mishra said that though they were arrested from different places, they belonged to the same gang. The gang had started home delivery of liquor in the district for the past three days and chits seized by police clearly indicate it as they carry different numbers and even names in codes, SP Mishra said adding that the gang used to keep liquor bottles underground in Chaur (riverside) of Budhi Gandak and used to dig them out as and when required. The gang was bringing liquor from Deoghar in Jharkhand state, the SP said.
SP Mishra said that police also seized two pistols and 16 live rounds from the possession of the four smugglers. The SP said that Phulena Rai had been jailed in the past as well. Police are looking the mobile call details of the four arrested smugglers, he added.
Replying to a query, SP Mishra said that on June 16, 2017, night, Excise department sleuths had arrested four persons including a quack and son of local JD(U) leader while boozing from village Dakra under Bakhri police station in Begusarai district.
