Patna : France won their second FIFA World Cup on July 15, 2018, defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final at Luzhniki Stadium, Russia. Croatia Striker Mario Mandzukic’s Own Goal (OG) in the 18th minute through a header gave France a 1-0 lead in the match. But, Croatian Midfielder Ivan Persic levelled the score 1-1 by scoring goal for his team in the 28th minute. France Striker Antoine Griezmann scored goal through penalty in the 38th minute to give France a 2-1 lead. At half-time France were leading 2-1.
After half-time, France Midfielder Paul Pogba scored goal in the 59th minute to give his country 3-1 lead. France Midfielder Kylian Mbappe, 19, put the match out of Croatia’s reach by scoring goal in the 65th minute to give France a 4-1 lead. Croatia Striker Mario Mandzukic scored goal in the 69th minute to reduce France’s lead to 4-2. The final match lasted 96 minute.
France, who had won their first World Cup in 1998, became the first country to score 4 goals in the World Cup final since 1970 World Cup final when Brazil beat Italy 4-1.
