Motihari :  Four bike borne unidentified armed criminals looted Rs 10.98 lakh cash from Chakia Town branch of  Bandhan Bank, a private bank, after breaking the bank vault on September 13, 2019, afternoon, in East Champaran District in North Bihar.

The bank is located on the first floor of a rented building on Chakiya-Sahabganj road in Chakia town. The criminals looted huge cash in a 15 minute operation and escaped towards Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur District. Chakia is 40 km away from Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran District.

SDPO, Chakia, Shailendra Kumar, told this reporter that the bank employees, in their statements, said that four criminals  entered the bank posing as customers but soon snatched  the gun from the Bank Guard and  made him captive. The criminals   asked the customer present at bank counters  to stay relaxed saying they had come to only loot cash from the bank. Thereafter, the criminals made all the bank employees captive at gun points and looted cash. The bank employees said they did not know  on which vehicle the criminals had come.

East Champaran SP Upendra Kumar Sharma reached the place of occurrence and  quizzed all the bank employees in a room   and also asked them to recount the cash to know the amount the criminals had actually looted. Earlier, there was rumour that the criminals had looted Rs 20  lakhs. After recounting of cash of bank,  the bank  accountant said Rs 10.98 lakh was looted by the criminals.

SDPO,  Shailendra Kumar, said  police were investigating into the incident from different angles  and raids were being conducted to arrest the criminals. The border of the district  has been sealed, he added.
