Former President Pranab Mukherjee lauds pace of development in Bihar

Patna : Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee on January 20, 2019, lauded the pace of development in Bihar. Addressing the Convocation of Patna University at S K Memorial Hall, Patna, former President Mukherjee said that he was happy that Bihar is developing at a faster pace. Bihar’s growth rate is better than the national average, Mukherjee said.

He, however, said that the institutions of higher education including technical institutions will have to develop further to match world standard. The former President also stressed on making higher education job and skill development oriented across the country to make a new India. Former President Mukherjee and Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon gave Gold Medals to the toppers in different subjects on the occasion besides giving away PhD degrees to the scholars.

Governor Tandon said that he was extremely happy to know that 80 % of the Gold Medal winners were girls. The number of girl students in Patna University is now more than 50 % which indicates empowerment of women in the state. He said that the measures initiated by the Government for the development of higher education in the state were now showing positive results. The Governor said that the University Management Information System (UMIS) will be implemented this year. Tandon described former President Mukherjee as a great educationist. Patna University VC Prof Rasbihari Prasad Singh highlighted the achievements of the university.

Former President Mukherjee arrived here on January 20, 2019, evening. He was welcome at Raj Bahavan by Governor Tandon. The former President will stay overnight at Raj Bhavan.
