Patna : Veteran CPI leader and former Rajya Sabha Member Gaya Singh died at a Patna hospital at 11 am on October 7, 2017, after prolonged illness. He was 76. He will be cremated here at 9 am on October 8. A former president of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Gaya Singh was a native of village Alama in Nalanda district.

CPI State Secretary and former MLA Satnanarain Singh and several other senior leaders of the party reached the hospital soon after hearing about the news of Gaya Singh’s death. The body was first taken to his Patel Nagar, Patna, residence and thereafter to his native village Alama. The body would be brought back to Janshakti Bhavan, Patna, by October 7 night. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar mourned Gaya Singh and said he always fought for the rights of the workers in the country.
