Foreign liquor worth Rs 4 cr seized in Muzaffarpur in February 2017

Muzaffarpur : Foreign liquor worth Rs 4 crore have so far been seized in Muzaffarpur district in February 2017. Muzaffarpur tops the list of North Bihar districts in the seizure of liquor. The Excise department has taken action against around 300 persons in this connection in the district.

But, seizure of huge quantity of liquor notwithstanding, the smuggling of liquor into the district continues. Excise Superintendent (ES), Muzaffarpur, Amit Kumar attributes it to nexus between liquor mafia and a section of policemen.The district administration also ran campaign to create awareness about prohibition enforced in Bihar in April, 2016.

The smuggled liquor is supplied to other districts from Muzaffarpur. ES Amit Kumar said that on February 2, 2017, trucks carrying liquor were seized at under Bochaha, Gaighat, Kurhni and Muzaffarpur Sadar police stations. The district administration also ran campaign to create awareness about prohibition enforced in Bihar in April, 2016.
