Fognini demolishes Nadal to reach final of Monte-Carlo Masters

Patna : World No 118 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, knocked World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, out of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, Monaco, demolishing him in straight sets in the semi-finals on April 20, 2019, dashing his bid for a 12th Monte-Carlo title. Fognini beat clay court King Nadal 6-4, 6-2 in 1hr 36 minutes in the semi-finals at Country Club Monte- Carlo to reach the final of the tournament for the first time. It was Fognini’s 4th victory over Nadal in 12th meeting.

Fognini broke Nadal’s service 6 times in the match while the latter broke his service thrice. Fognini won 8 games in a row in the match to 3 by Nadal. Fognini won 29 service points to 25 by Nadal. Fognini’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 63% & 56 %) was much better than that of Nadal ( 44% & 44%).

Fognini, the 13th seed,  will face World No 48 Dusan Lajovic, 28, Serbia, in the final on April 21, 2019.
