Muzaffarpur : Flood situation continues to be grim in four blocks of Muzaffarpur district in North Bihar. According to Muzaffarpur DM Dharmendra Singh, a population of two lakh in thirty panchayats of the four blocks is affected by flood.

The four flood affcted blocks are : Katra, Aurai, Paroo and Sahebganj. A 15 member NDRF team had rescued two thousand flood affected people till late August 14, 2017,  night. Five SDRF teams are also engaged in rescue operation, DM Singh said. The water of river Bagmati and Lakhandei has entered 8,000 houses under Katra block and 3,000 houses under Aurai block. The water of swollen Gandak has entered several village under Sahebganj block. The district administration has asked the flood affected people under Sahebganj and Paroo blocks to shift to safer places.

Meanwhile, the right embankment of river Kamlabalan breached at 57.10 km in Madhubani district on August 14 due to unprecedented release of water into the river. The Khiroi right embankment also breached on August 14 night at 7 km near village Baghoul under Jale block in Darbhanga district due to sudden release of water in river Khiroi. River Mahananda, on the other hand, wreaking havoc in Kishanganj and Katihar districts in North Bihar.

The flood caused by different rivers has so far claimed 85 lives in Bihar including 3o in Araria district.
