Saharsa : The situation in 12 flood affected districts incluing Saharsa, Araraia, Purnia, Sitamarhi West Champaran and Kishanganj continues to be grim even as it eased just slightly in few districts on August 16, 2017. The flood situation in Simribakhtiarpur, Sattarkataiya and Kahra blocks in Saharsa district deteriorated after the left embankment of East Kosi Main Canal was breached at several points under these blocks on August 13, 2017, innundating areas on both sides of the embankment.

The Saharsa DM has deployed nice officials to keep a close watch on the situation at the breached points  of the embankment and directed them to get them plugged at the earliest. He has directed them to always keep ready materials required to plug breaches.

On the other, Araria town, district headquarters of Araria district, looks like a floating town due to incessant rain during past few days. The Araria town residents are finding it difficult to get drinking water as even shops selling mineral water bottles are closed due to the flood, which has so far claimed 30 lives in the district.
