Sitamarhi : Flood situation 12 blocks of Sitamarhi district deteriorated on July 14, 2019, following torrential rain in North Bihar and Nepal. Over five lakh people under these blocks have been directly or indirectly affected by flood. The situation in 60 villages is grim as rivers Bagmati, Lalbakeya, Adhwara Group, Lakhandei, Rato, Jhim, Marar, and Hardi are in spate.

The Bagmati river water overtopped the Eastern Embankment near village Jamla–Parsa on July 13, 2019, night, adding to miseries of residents of at least 30 villages under Suppi block in Sitamarhi distric. The water of Bagmati and Lakhandei are posing threat to Sitamarhi town as well. The people are leaving their homes in low lying areas.
Sitamarhi DM Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh, however,  said that rivers were showing receding trends on July 14. The water level of river has come down by 50 cm though still flowing much above the danger mark.
Four relief camps have been set up for the flood affected villagers and forty community kitchens are running in the district. Altogether 135 boats have been pressed into service and more are being requisitioned from other districts; added the DM.
SDRF team has been deployed in Parihar and Suppi blocks.
TheCongress MLA from  Riga Amit Kumar Tunna visited affected areas by tractor on July 13, 2019. Trains are mostly plying up to Sitamarhi from Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur.
