Bagaha : Flood protection works are yet to be completed in West Champaran district even as monsoon has entered Bihar. This has made villagers of many flood prone areas apprehensive. Mukhiya of Semra-Labdeha panchayat under Piparasi circle under Bagaha Sub-Division Manorama Devi anticipates devastating flood this year too as one of Guide Bunds located at Shripatinagar, which had been breached in over 100 mere at two places in 2017, is yet to be plugged.
Apart from that about 52 families of Semra-Labdeha panchayat panchayat who were to be shifted to facilitate construction of Paniyaha- Tamakuhi rail project are yet to be rehabilitated at safer places. The delay in their rehabilitation is hampering the rail project. Repeated request to the district administration to free the railway land from unauthorised occupation to start the earth work is yet to evoke any positive response from it.
If the railway land is not vacated immediately, flood of the Gandak river may enter into the low lying area and wash away adjoining villages. Pipara-Piparasi Right Embankment of river Gandak is posing threat at many places.
Breached Guide Bund on Kosil river, also called sorrow of Tharuhat, at village Nautanawa under Bagaha- 2 block too has not been plugged. Five Mahadalit families of the village were shifted last year but the administration is yet rehabilitate them, alleged Ramendra Gaurav, Baleshwar Mahto, and Tarkeshwar Mahto of the village.
