Motihari : Principal Secretary, Disaster Management Department (DMD), Bihar Government , Pratyaya Amrit, and Secretary to CM Manish Kumar Verma accompanied by Additional Secretary, DMD, M Ramchandrudu, and DMs of East and West Champaran district, made aerial survey of flood hit areas of East Champaran and West Champaran district district for the second consecutive day to take stock of the flood situation in the two districts.
After making aerial survey of the flood affected areas, DMD Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and Secretary to CM Verma held discussion with the DMs of the two district and issued necessary instructions to them to tackle the devastation caused by the flood and protect the embankments of rivers in spate after incessant rains in the catchment area of Nepal.
DM, East Champaran, Raman Kumar said that the water level of different river was receding flood but the district administration is ready to combat potential return of flood. “This time flood came much before its expected time and that is the reason we are expecting return of flood,” the DM said. He said that the natural calamity has claimed 16 human lives and the next of kin of each of them will get Rs 4 lakh each while all the flood affected families will be given Rs 6,000 each.
Addressing a press conference after aerial survey, DM Kumar said altogether 73,795 families under 11 blocks of the district have been effected by the flood . He said 19 gram panchayats have been completely affected by flood while 70 gram panchayats are partially affected.
DM Kumar said 99 community kitchens are being run in the flood hit areas where 26,000 people were being provided food. He said that flood had damaged roads at 129 locations, which are being repaired. The DM said that teams of NDRF equipped with with adequate number of boats is highly alert. He said 26 health camps with required medicine are also functional.
