Flood claims 23 lives in W Champaran, DM holds meeting with officials

Bagaha : West Champaran DM Deor Nilesh Ramchandra on August 19, 2017, held a flood review meeting with Block Development Officers (BDOs), Circle Officers (COs), Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), agriculture officers besides officials of all the departments of Bagaha Sub- division at Dhruv cinema hall, Bagaha. The flood had  claimed 23 lives in West Champaran district till August 18. Two hundred three panchayats under 15 blocks of the district are reeling under the flood.

Bagaha SDM Dharmendra Kumar briefed the DM about the devastation caused by the flood. It was decided that panchayat to block level committees will prepare report about the damage caused by the flood to houses, crops and property mentioning bank account numbers of the flood victims within a week.

When the mediapersons asked the DM why a criminal case had not been lodged against flood control division engineers for negligence resulting in breach in Piparasi Pipara (PP) right Gandak embankment causing huge loss of property, the DM replied that an expert panel has been formed to probe into the incident.

Bagaha SDM Dharmendra Kumar said that an Executive Engineer Vijay Kumar besides an Assistant Engineer Kumar Abhisekh have been suspended by the Water Resources Department(WRD) and  Executive Engineer, Main Western Canal (MWC), Gandak Project, Valmikinagar, Rabindra Kumar Singh has been posted there. The SDM also informed that plugging of breached PP embankment was completed on August 19, 2017. The embankment had breached in a stretch of about 40 metres on August 15 around 4 am.

Meanwhile, disciplinary action has been taken against CDPO, Bhitaha, Kalawati Kumari, by the SDM, Bagaha, Dhamendra Kumar for not complying with the order of the Disaster Management Department. She did not even attend the meeting convened by the DM on August 19.
