Speed Post News NetworkBagaha : A furious Gandak has eroded Amawa Khas Flood Protection Embankment in Kushinagar District in UP in around 200 metres. The condition of the embankment deteriorated on September 24, 2019, night, after the engineers of Flood Control Division, Kushinagar District, and the labourers left the place where river Gandak is eroding the embankment. The changing course of the river started eroding the Bund near village Lakshmipur.The villagers, seeing the alarming situation, started putting sand bags and loose boulders in the river to check the erosion.Getting information about it, Ajay Kumar Lallu, MLA from Sewarahi assembly constituency in UP, reached there and inquired about the flood control Assistant Engineer Harishankar Pandey and others who were deployed there to protect the Bund but they had allegedly left the place sensing the mood the villagers.Meanwhile, Block Development Officer (BDO), Thakaraha, S Saurabh, and Circle Officer (CO) Chandrashekhar Tiwari said, ” We are ready to meet any eventuality. If the embankment is breached, around five panchayats under Thakaraha Block will be inundated affecting about 50,000 people.”
