Muzaffarpur :  Five persons including two children were killed in Muzaffarpur, 27 were injured, 87 houses blown away, 20 electric poles and 19 telephone poles  were  broken  and more than  100 trees were uprooted in gusty wind and heavy rain that lashed  Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj and East Champaran  districts of north Bihar on Sunday evening. A Peepal tree  uprooted and fell on the engine of Garib Rath express  at  Ujiarpur  station in Samastipur district on Barauni –Samastipur section of East Central Railway (ECR).

Muzaffarpur DM Dharmendra Singh said financial relief  have been given to all the affected families. Bansi Mahato and Akhilesh Kumar  of village Chiknauta, Bachcha Rai  of Joukanhi, Amrita Kumari of Baruraj , Golu Kumar of Verihari  were killed  in house collapse  in Muzaffarpur  district, according to an official information. In East Champaran district seven persons were injured at Patahi,  Adapur and Sangrampur  as branches of trees  fell on them.  Four persons were injured in Gopalganj. Large numbers of electric and telephone poles were broken  in Muzaffarpur and Samastipur districts, according to  official sources.

The Garib Rath express was stranded at Ujiarpur for sometime as a peepal tree fell on its engine but no one was hurt, said  Railway sources.  The government has asked authorities concerned to assess the damage  and asked the respective DMs to send report .
