FIR lodged against 2 doctors of Sadar Hospital, Ara

Ara : A named FIR has been lodged with Town police station, Ara, in Bhojpur district, against Dr Madhubala and an Anaesthetist Dr Uday Kumar on January 7, 2019, in connection with death of child in womb on January 5, 2019, night, allegedly due to negligence of doctors of Sadar Hospital, Ara. The FIR was lodged by the family members of the woman concerned. Superintendent, Sadar Hospital, Ara, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha, has served show cause notices on three doctors : Dr Madhubala, Dr Uday Kumar, and Dr Naresh Prasad, and two Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) Rekha Kumari and Ranjana in this connection.

A child had died in the womb of Pooja Devi, wife of Dinanath Tiwari of village Babhnauli under Ara Muffasil police station, on January 5 night at Sadar Hospital, Ara, as no doctor was available at the hospital to operate the pregnant woman who was crying with delivery pain and her life was also at stake. Later, at the behest of Bhojpur District Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Vikas was called who operated upon the woman and took the dead child out of the womb and saved the life of the woman in the wee hour on January 6, 2019. Her family members had submitted an application to the DM who assured them to take stern action against the doctors concerned.

Superintendent, Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha said that Dr Madhubala was performing duty in place of Dr Sayyad Naznin who was on leave till January 5, 2018, and Anaesthetist Dr Uday Kumar was on duty but both the doctors were not present at the hospital and added that Dr Naresh Prasad was called but he refused to come over. He further said that two ANMs Rekha Kumari and Ranjana Kumari were in-charge of the Operation theatre and had keys of the OT but they were also not present at that time. He said that action would be taken against the guilty persons.

Dr Madhubala said that she came at the call of the Superintendent but she was unable to perform operation in the absence of Anaesthetist while Dr Naresh Prasad said that he had returned home after performing his duty at Sadar Hospital despite poor health condition and the hospital administration disturbed him even around midnight. Dr Uday Kumar was allegedly attending a birthday party somewhere near Dharhara. ANMs Rekha Kumari and Ranjana Kumari said that they were posted at the OT of the hospital and it was not possible for them to perform duty 24×7.
