Patna : World No 3 and nine-time champion Roger Federer, Switzerland, and World No 5 Alexander Zverev, Germany, entered the quarter-finals of Halle Open, Germany, an ATP World Tour 500 points grass court tournament, on June 20, 2019, evening.

Federer, 37, beat World No 77 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 34, France, in a three-set thriller 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 in 2hr 16 minutes in second round. Both the players won 2 break points each in the match. They also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Tsonga though fired 14 Aces in the match to 7 by Federer. Federer won 71 service points to 69 by Tsonga.

Zverev beat World No 76 Steve Johnson, 29, USA, 6-3, 7-5 in the second round in 76 minutes. Zverev broke Johnson’s service thrice in the match besides winning 5 games in a row. The German fired 11 Aces in the match to 4 by Johnson. Zverev will face David Goffin, Belgium, in the QFs.

World No 20 Roberto Bautista Agut, 31, Spain, also advanced to the QFs defeating World No 54 Richard Gasquet, 32, France, 6-1, 6-4 in second round. Agut broke Gasquet’s service thrice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Agut served 4 Aces in the match to 2 by Gasquet. Agut will face Federer in the QFs.

World No 22 Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, beat World No 69 Andreas Seppi, 35, Italy, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in second round to enter the QFs. Berrettini fired 12 Aces in the match to 4 by Seppi. Berrettini will face World No 9 Karen Khachanov, Russia, in the QFs.
