Patna : World No 8 and winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles Roger Federer, 39, Switzerland ; World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, and World No 9 Matteo Berrettini, 25, Italy, reached men’s singles 4th round at Wimbledon Championships on July 3, 2021.
Sixth seed Federer beat World N0 34 & 29th seed Cameron Norrie, 25, UK, in a tough four-set contest 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in 3rd round on Centre Court at Wimbledon, London. Norrie though fired 12 Aces during the match to 7 by the Swiss. Federer, however, won 4 break points during the match to 2 by the Brit. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. But, Norrie committed 7 double faults. Federer, in all, won 132 points in the match to 114 by Norrie. The Swiss won 51 receiving points to 33 by the Brit.
Fourth seed Zverev beat 31st seed Taylor Fritz, 23, USA, in four sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 in 3rd round on Court 2 coming from behind. Zverev hammered 18 Aces during the match to 13 by the American. Zverev committed 9 double faults in the match to 8 by World No 40 Fritz. The German won 3 break points during the match to 1 by the American. Zverev won 3 games in a row to 2 by Fritz. The German, in all, won 144 points during the match to 117 by the American.
Seventh seed Berrettini beat World No 64 Aljaz Bedene, 31, Slovenia, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in 3rd round on Court 3 winning 3 break points and 3 games in a row during the match. Berrettini hammered 20 Aces during the match to 9 by Bedene, who committed 3 double faults. The Italian, in all, won 93 points during the match to 72 by the Slovenian.
Berrettini will face World No 79 Ilya Ivashka, 27, Belarus, who defeated World No 78 Jordon Thompson, 27, USA, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in 3rd round.
14th seed Hubert Hurkacz, 24, Poland, beat World No 38 Alexander Bublik, 24, Kazakhstan, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in 3rd round winning 4 break points and 5 games in a row during the match.
23rd Seed Lorenzo Sonego, 26, Italy, beat World No 91 James Duckworth, 29, Australia, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in 3rd round on Court 17. World NO 27 Sonego fired 14 Aces during the match to just 2 by Duckworth.
