Patna : Winner of 20 Grand Slam singles titles and No 2 seed Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, and World No 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, entered the semi-finals of Dubai Tennis Championship, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament played on hard courts, at Dubai, UAE, on February 28, 2019, night.
Federer beat World No 35, Marton Fucsovics, 27, Hungary, 7-6, 6-4 in 1hr 56 minutes in the quarter-finals. Both the players served 2 Aces each in the match. Federer broke Fucsovic’ service twice while the latter broke his service once. Both the players also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Federer also committed 2 double faults.
Tsitsipas, the 5th seed, beat World No 77 Hubert Hurkacz, 22, Poland, in three sets 7-6, 6-7, 6-1 in 2hr 19 minutes to sail into the semi-finals. Hurkacz had defeated top seed and World No 6 Kei Nishikori in the second round on February 27.
Tsitsipas will meet World No 23 Gael Monfils, 32, France, in the semi-finals on March 1, 2019.
