Patna  : World No 2 in ATP rankings Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, entered the final of Stuttgart Open, an ATP World Tour 250 grass court event, defeating World No 24 Nick Kyrgios, 23, Australia, in the semi-finals on June 16, 2018, night, at tennis club Weissenhof, Stuttgart, Germany.

Federer beat Kyrgios in three sets 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 in a very close contest in the semi-finals. Kyrgios fired 23 Aces to Federer’s 12 Aces in the match. But, Kyrgios committed 8 double faults to just 2 by Federer, whose winning percentage on both first and second serve was much better than that of his rival. Federer won two break points while Kyrgios won none.

By reaching the final of Stuttgart Open, Federer will regain the World No 1 position in the ATP rankings to be released on June 18, 2018, as World No 1 Rafael Nadal, Spain, 32, has a lead of just 100 points over Federer.

Federer will play World No 35 Milos Raonic, 27, Canada, in the final on June 17. Raonic beat World No 17 and defending champion Lucas Pouille, 24, France, 6-4, 7-6, in the semi-finals on June 16, 2018. Raonic fired 19 Aces in the matchg to just 7 by Pouille. Pouille committed 4 double faults to 2 by Raonic.
