Federer edges past Millman to enter 4th Round of Australian Open

Patna : Six-time champion & World No 3 Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, survived scare before overpowering World No 47 John Millman, 30, Australia, is a five-set thriller in the third round of Australian Open (AO) 2020 at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on January 24, 2020, battling back after losing the first set.

Federer edged past Millman 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in 4 hr 03 minutes to enter the 4th round of AO 2020. At one stage in fifth set tie-break, Millman was leading 8-4 but Federer rallied back to win the tie-break 10-8.  It was Federer’s 100th win at Australian Open. After the match, Federer said John Millan played a great match describing him as a great fighter. Millman had defeated Federer in US Open 4th round in 2018. The Swiss, who hit 62 winners in the match, now leads Millman 3-1 Head to Head.

Millman won 4 break points in the match to 3 by third seed Federer, the winner of 20 Grand Slam titles. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Federer, however, hammaered 16 Aces in the match to 11 by the Australian. The Swiss star committed 6 double faults in the match to 4 by the Australian. Millman also won 123 service points in the match to 115 by Federer.

World No 12 Fabio Fognini, 32, Italy, also entered the 4th round defeating World No 25 Guido Pella, 29, Argentina, in straight sets 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 in 3rd round at Melbourne Arena. Fognini, the 12th seed, fired 11 Aces in the match to 7 by Pella. The Italian won 5 break points to 2 by Pella, the 22nd seed. Fognini also won 5 games in a row in the match.

World No 67 Marton Fucsovics, 27, Hungary, beat World No 80 Tommy Paul, 22, USA, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 to enter the 4th round winning 6 break points besides winning 7 games in a row in the match. Fucsovics won 53 service points in the match to 37 by Paul. Fucsovics will face Roger Federer in 4th round on January 26,2020. Fucsovics had defeated World N0Denis Shapovalov, 20, Canada, in four-sets in 1st round.
