Patna : World Number 1 and top seed Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, and World Number 8 and sixth seed Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, have reached the quarter-finals of Indian Wells ATP Masters tennis tournament at California, USA.
Federer defeated Jeremy Chardy, 31, France, the World Number 100, 7-5, 6-4, in the Round of 16 on March 14, 2018, night. del Porto defeated compatriot Leonardo Mayer, 30, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3, in the Round of 16 to enter the quarter-finals of the event.
World Number 9 and 7th seed Kevind Anderson, 31, South Africa, defeated 11th seed and World Number 14 Pablo Carreno Busta, 26, Spain, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, to enter the quarter-finals. So did, the 18th seed Sam Querry, USA, who defeated 28th seed Feliciano Lopez, 36, Spain, 6-3, 6-4, in the Round of 16 on March 14. Philipp Kohlschreiber, Germany, 34, the 31st seed, also entered the quarter-finals after defeating Pierre Hugues Herbert, 26, France, 6-4, 7-6, in the Round of 16.
Simona Halep enters semi-fianls : In the Women’s section, World Number 1 and top seed Simona Halep entered the semi-finals of the event after defeating World Number 51 Petra Martic, Croatia, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, in the quarter-finals. World Number 44 Naomi Osaka, Japan, upset Number 5 seed Karolina Pliskova, Czech Republic, in the quarter-finals 6-2, 6-3, to enter the semi-fianls.
