Federer, Cilic, Isner, Raonic enter 2nd round of Wimbledon 2018

Patna : World No 2 but top seed Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, World No 5 Marin Cilic, 29, Coatia, World No 10 John Isner, 33, USA, World No 13 Sam Querrey, 30, USA, World No 19 Lucas Pouilli, 24, France, and World No 32 Milos Raonic, 27, Canada, entered the second round of Wimbledon tennis championship on July 2, 2018. But, World No 67 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, upset World No 20 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, in the first round.

World No 85 Yuki Bhambri, 25, India, lost to World No 133rd Thomas Fabbiano, Italy, in 4 sets 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, 2-6.

Federer beat World No 58 Dusan Lajovic 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, in the first ound at the Centre Court. Federer hammered 8 Aces in the match to none by Lajovic. Both the players committed one double fault each. Federer won 5 break points in the match compared to none by his rival. Federer also won 9 games in a row. His winning percentage on both first and second serve was also much better than that of Lajovic.

Third seed Marin Cilic defeated World No 256 Yoshihito Nishioka, 22, Japan, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, to enter the second round. Cilic fired 21 Aces in the match to just one by Nishioka. But, Cilic also committed 4 double faults to none by Nishioka. Cilic also won 4 break points and 5 games in a row in the match.

Isner defeated World No 134 Yannick Maden, 28, Germany, 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 to enter the second round. Isner hammered 28 Aces in the match to just 2 by Maden. Isner Committed 3 double faults while Maden committed 5 double faults. Isner also won three break points.

Milos Raonic, the 13th seed, defeated Liam Broady, 24, UK, 7-5, 6-0, 6-1, to enter the second round. aonic hammered 19 Aces in the match to just 4 by Broady. But, Raonic also also committed 7 double faults to just 2 by Broady. Raonic, however, won 6 break points.

World No 67 Daniil Medvedev, Russia, 22, upset World No 20 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, 7-6, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round. Coric had just a few days back defeated World No 2 Roger Federer in the final of Halle International,Grmany. Medvedev fired 9 Aces in the match to 6 by Coric. Coric committed three double faults compared to two by his rival. Medvedev also won 5 break points to just 2 by Coric.

World No 13 and 11th seed Sam Querrey beat World No 101 Jordon Thompson, 24, Australia, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. Querrey fired 15 Aces in the match to just 6 by Thompson. Querrey also won 5 break points.
