Patna : World No 3 in ATP rankings and eight-time champion Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, retained his Swiss Indoors singles title beating qualifier and World No 93 Marius Copil, 28, Romania, in the final on October 28, 2018, night, at Basel, Switzerland. Federer was appearing at the Swiss Indoors final for the 14th time.

Federer defeated Copil in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 in a tough contest. Copil though hammered 14 Aces in the match to 6 by Federer. He committed 4 double faults to 3 by Federer. Federer won 3 break points to 2 by Copil. Federer won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by his rival. Federer’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was much better than that of Copil. It was Federer’s 9th Swiss Indoors singles title, an ATP world tour 500 points event.

Copil had defeated World No 5 and 2nd seed Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in the semi-finals firing 26 Aces in the match. HeĀ  had also defeated World No 6 and 3rd seed Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, in the Round of 16 hammering 21 Aces.
