Ara : Family members went on rampage and also staged demonstration in front of the office of the Civil Surgeon on the campus of Ara Sadar Hospital on August 6, 2019, after the death of an eight month old girl during treatment allegedly due to negligence of the doctors.

An eight month old girl Sandhya, daughter of Harendra Kumar of Jai Nagar under Udwantnagar police station in Bhojpur district, was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital in the afternoon on August 5, 2019,  where the doctor diagnosed that she was suffering from Pneumonia. But she died as she was allegedly not given proper treatment at the hospital.

Harendra Kumar said that after admission, the doctor sent the patient to the Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) on the campus of Ara Sadar Hospital but there was no doctor and so they requested the doctor on emergency duty to admit her to the emergency ward but no one pay heed to his request and at last the girl died for want proper care. He held the doctor for the death of his daughter.

It was said that the SNCU should have a doctor and two ANMs 24×7 but the doctor seldom comes to the SNCU despite several complaints. The doctors on emergency duty take care of only influential persons.

Superintendent, Ara Sadar Hospital, Dr Satish Kumar Sinha said that he had not information regarding absence of doctor from the SNCU and said he would inquire into the matter and the doctor concerned would be taken into task.
