Patna : England beat West Indies (WI) by 6 wickets in the first ODI at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on February 20, 2019, late night, with opener Jason Roy scoring 123 in 85 balls with 15 fours and 3 sixes, Joe Root scoring 102 in 97 balls with 9 fours, and captain Eoin Morga, scoring 65 in 51 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Chasing a target of 361, England scored 364/4 in 48.4 overs. England have taken 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series. Jason Roy was named Player of the Match.

Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow added 91 runs for the first wicket. Bairstow scored 34 in 33 balls with 6 fours. Roy and Root added 114 runs for the second wicket. Root and Morgan added 116 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 20 and 4 runs respectively.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, West Indies scored 360/8 in 50 overs with opener Chris Gayle scoring 135 in 129 balls hitting 3 fours and 12 sixes while wicketkeeper Shai Hope scored 64 in 65 balls hitting 7 fours and a six. Gayle and his opening partner John Campbell ( 30) added 38 runs for the first wicket. Gayle and Hope added 131 runs for the second wicket. Gayle also added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket with Shimron Hetmyer (20). Darren Bravo made 40 in 30 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Ashley Nurse remained unbeaten on 25 in 8 balls hitting 1 four and 3 sixes. Devendra Bishoo remained not on 9 in 7 balls with a six. Captain Jason Holder scored 16 runs. For England, Ben Stokes took 3/37 and spinner Adil Rashid 3/74 while Chris Woakes took 2/59.

West Indies batsmen hit 23 sixes in the match to 6 sixes hit by England batsmen.
