Patna : England defeated Sri Lanka by 211 runs on the 4th day of the first cricket test at Galle International Stadium, Galle, Sri Lanka, on November 9, 2018, with spinner Moeen Ali, 31, taking 4/71 and fellow spinner Jack Leach, 27, taking 3/60. All-rounder Ben Stokes and spinner Adil Rashid took one wicket each. Moeen Ali had also taken four wickets in Sri Lanka’s first innings.
Chasing a target of 462, Sri Lanka were all out for 250 in 85.1 overs in their second innings on the 4th day of the play with Angelo Mathews scoring 53, Kusal Mendis 45, and Dilruwan Perera 30. Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Silva scored 26 and 30 runs respectively adding 51 runs for the first wicket. Captain Dinesh Chandimal, who had scored 33 in the first innings, fell to Jack Leach for 1. Angelo Mathews had scored 52 in the first innings. Sri Lanka had scored 203 in their first innings.
Enland were all out for 342 with wicketkeeper Ben Foakes scoring 107 on debut in their first innings and had declared at 322/6 in their second innings with opener Keaton Jennings scoring an unbeaten 146. Ben Foakes was declared Player of the Match.
