Patna : England beat India by 5 wickets in the second T20I at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, UK, on late July 6, 2018, night, to level the three-match T20I series 1-1 riding on an unbeaten 58 with 4 fours and 3 sixes by Alex Hales and 28 with 2 sixes by Jonny Bairstow. Asked to bat first by England who won the toss, India made 148/5 in 20 overs. In reply, England made 149/5 in 19.4 overs.
India made a disastrous start with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan getting out for 5 and 10 runs respectively with the team score reading 22 only. At the same score, Lokesh Rahul, who had scored an unbeaten century in the first T20I, also got out after scoring just 6 runs making it 22/3. Captain Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina then steadied the innings with a 57 run partenership for the 4th wicket.
Raina got out after scoring 27 when the score was 79. Kohli fell to pacer David Willey after making 47 with 1 four and 2 sixes when the score was 111. Wicketkeeper M S Dhoni remained not out on 32 with 5 fours while Hardik Pandya remained not out on 12 with a six.
Chasing a target of 149, England also lost their first three wickets for 44 with openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler getting out for 14 and 15 runs respectively and Joe Root making just 9. Captain Eoin Morgan was out for 17 when the score was 92. Bairstow’s wicket fell when the score was 126.
For India, fast bowler Umesh Yadav took 2/34 while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya took one wicket each. Wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also took a wicket. But, fellow wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who had taken 5 wickets in the first match, failed to take any wicket in this match.
