Patna : England defeated Australia by 24 runs in the 2nd ODI at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, UK, on September 13, 2020, night, with fast bowlers Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, and Sam Curran, taking three wickets each while spinner Adil Rashid took one wicket. Chasing a target of 232, Australia were all out for 207 in 48.4 overs. Jofra Archer was declared Player Of The Match. England captain Eoin Morgan lauded his bowlers and said they also batted well. The three-match ODI series is now level at 1-1. Australia had won the 1st ODI.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, England scored 231/9 in 50 overs with Captain Eoin Morgan scoring 42 in 52 balls with 5 fours, Joe Root scoring 39 in 73 balls with 4 fours and a six, and Tom Curran making 37 in 39 balls hitting 5 fours.

Spinner Adil Rashid remained unbeaten on 35 in 26 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. Chris Woakes made 26 in 38 balls with 4 fours. England had lost their first two wickets with only 29 runs on board. Opener Jonnu Bairstow fell to fast bowler Mitchell Starc for zero while his opening partner Jason Roy was run out for 21 in 22 balls hitting 4 fours. Jos Buttler (wk) fell to fast bowler Pat Cummins for 3 while Sam Billings fell to spinner Adam Zampa for 8. Zampa had earlier taken the wickets of Joe Root and Morgan. Zampa took 3/36 while Mitchell Starc took 2/38.

In reply, Australia were all out for 207 with opener Aaron Finch (captain) scoring 73 in 105 balls hitting 8 fours and a six while Marnus Labuschagne scored 48 in 59 balls with 3 fours. Alex Carey (wk) fell to Adil Rashid for 36 in 41 balls with 2 fours. Opener David Warner fell to fast bowler Jofra Archer for 6 making it 9/1. Marcus Stoinis also fell to Archer for 9 and it was 37/2.

Labuschagne fell to fast bowler Chris Woakes and it was 144/3. Finch and Labuschagne added 107 runs for third wicket. But, Mitchell Marsh fell to Jofra Archer for 1 and it was 145/4. Finch fell to Chris Woakes making it 145/5. Glenn Maxwell fell to Woakes for 1 making it 147/6. Pat Cummins fell to Sam Curran for 11 and it 166/7. Mitchell Starc also fell to Sam Curran without scoring and it was 166/8. At one  Australia lost four wickets in just 20 balls scoring just 3 runs. Adam Zampa also fell to Sam Curran for 2 and it was 176/9.
