Patna : England were all out for 246 in 76.4 overs in their first innings on day 1 in the 4th cricket test against India at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, UK, on August 30, 2018, riding on a 136 ball 78 with 8 fours and a six by fast bowler Sam Curran and 40 in 86 ball with 2 fours and 2 sixes by Moeen Ali. England won the toss and opted to bat

Indian fast bowlers Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Hardik Pandya, rocked the England batting line up reducing it to 86/6. But, Sam Curran and Moeen Ali steadied the innings with a 81 run partnership for the 7th wicket. England openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennigs were out for 17 and 0 respectively. Captain Joe Root was out for 4 while Jonny Bairstow made 6. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler made 21 while allrounder Ben Stokes scored 23.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah, who had taken 7 wickets in the 3rd test, took 3/46 in 20 overs while Ishant Sharma took 2/26 in 16 overs. Mohammad Shami took 2/51 in 18 overs while spinner Ravichandra Ashwin took 2/40. Allrounder Hardik Pandya took 1/51 in 8 overs.

In reply, India were 19/0 after 4 overs with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Lokesh Rahul batting on 3 and 11 respectively at stumps. India trail by 227 runs.
