Patna : England were 303/9 in 77-4 overs at stumps on day 2 in the one-off test against Ireland at Lord’s, London, on July 25, 2019, with Stuart Broad batting on 21 and Olly Stone yet to score. England, who were bowled out for only 85 in their first innings, lead by 181. Ireland had scored 207 in their first innings.

Resuming at their overnight score of 0/0, England lost the wicket of opener Rory Burns (6) when the score  was 26. But, spinner Jack Leach, the night watchman who opened in the second innings, added 151 runs with Jason Roy for the second wicket. Playing his 5th test Leach, was had scored 55 runs in his first 4 tests, scored 92 runs while Jason Roy scored 72. Captain Joe Root scored 31 while Jonny Bairstow was again out for a duck. Moeen Ali made 9. Sam Curran scored 37 while Chris Woakes scored 13.

For Ireland, fast bowler Mark Adair took 3/66 in 20 overs while medium fast bowlers Boyd Rankin and Stuart Thompson took two wickets each. Tim Murtagh, who had taken 5/15 in England’s first innings, took 1/52 in 18 overs in the second.
