Patna : England were 271/8 in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 of the 5th Ashes Test against Australia at Kennington Oval, London, on September 12, 2019, night, with Jos Buttler unbeaten on 64 in 84 balls hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes and spinner Jack Leach batting on 10 in 31 balls with 1 four even as they lost five wickets that of captain Joe Root , Jonny Bairstow (wk), all-rounder Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, and Jofra Archer in the third session of the play.

Josh, the top scorer for England, played the fast bowlers: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle, and MItchell Marsh,  comfortably. Buttler though was severe on Hazlewood hitting him for 2 consecutive fours in his 17th over, 2 consecutive sixes in his 18th over, and again a six in his 20th over. He has so far added 45 runs in 66 balls with Jack Leach for the 9th wicket.

Root fell to Pat Cummins for 57 in 141 balls with 3 fours while Bairstow fell to Mitchell Marsh for 22 in 55 balls with 3 fours making it 176/5. Sam Curran also fell to Marsh for 15 in 13 balls with 1 four and 1 six. Chris Woakes too fell to Marsh for 2 making it 205/7. Jofra Archer fell to Josh Hazlewood for 9 and it was 226/8.

For Australia, Mitchell Marsh took 4/35 while Pat Cummins took 2/73. Hazlewood took 2/76. Australia lead the five-match series 2-1.
