Patna : South Africa (SA) were all out for 223 in 89 overs in their first innings in the 2nd test against England at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, in the first session of play on Day 3 on January 5, 2019, as fast bowler James Anderson took 5/40 in 19 overs.

Vernon Philander remained unbeaten on 17 in 58 balls. Anderson, who had taken three wickets on Day 2, took the wickets of Kagiso Rabada (0) and  Anrich Nortje (4) on Day 3. England, who had scored 269 in their first innings, are 27/0 after 10 overs in their second innings, a lead of 73 runs. Zak Crawley is batting on 25 while Dominic Sibley is natting on 2.
