Patna : England were 224/4 in 90 overs at stumps on Day 1 in their 1st innings in 3rd test against South Africa (SA) at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on January 16, 2020, night, with all-rounder Ben Stokes unbeaten on 38 in 86 balls hitting 5 fours and Ollie Pope batting on 39 in 79 balls with 7 fours. Stokes and Pope have so far added 76 runs in 152 balls for the 5th wicket.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, England had lost their 4th wicket at 148 when captain Joe Root fell fast bowler Kagiso Ra bada for 27 in 46 balls 4 fours. Earlier, England openers Zak Crawley and Dominic Sibley added 70 runs for the first wicket.Sibley fell to Rabada for 36 in 95 balls hitting 5 fours. Zak Crawley fell to fast bowler Anrich Nortje for 44 in 137 balls with 5 fours and it was 103/2. Joe Denly fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for 25in 100 balls with 3 fours making it 134/3.
For SA, Kagiso Ra bada took 2/48 in 17 overs while Anrich Nortje took 1/52 and Keshav Maharaj 1/55. The four-match test series is level at 1-1.
