Patna : England  were 200/5 in 74 overs at stumps on Day 3 in their 1st innings of the 4th Ashes Test against Australia at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, UK, with all-rounder Ben Stokes batting on 7 and Jonny Bairstow (wk) batting on 5 on September 6, 2019, late night. England trail by 297 runs.

Resuming at their overnight score of 23/1, England lost four wickets on Day 3 including that of nightwatman Craig Overton, opener Rory Burns, captain Joe Root, and Jason Roy. Burns and Root added 141 runs for the 3rd wicket. Burns fell to fast bowler Hazlewood for 81 making it 166/3. Joe Root also fell to  Hazlewood for 71 and it was 175/4. Jason Roy too fell to Hazlewood for 22 and it was 196/5.  For Australia, Hazlewood took 4/48 in 20 overs while fellow fast bowler Pat Cummins took 1/37 in 17 overs.

Australia had declared their first innings at 497/8 in 126 overs with Steven Smith scoring 211, his 26th test ton.
