Patna : Superb bowling by fast bowlers Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami and spinner Ravindra Jadeja reduced England to 198/7 in 90 over in their first innings at stumps on day 1of the fifth cricket test against India at Kennington Oval, London, on September 7, 2018. Jos Buttler was batting on 11 and Adil Rashid on 4 at stumps.

England opener Alastair Cook, who has announced his retirement from international cricket after this test, score 71 with 8 fours while Moeen Ali made 50 with 4 fours. Captain Joe Root and wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow were out for duck while all-rounder Ben Stokes was out for 11. Sam Curran, England’s new found all-rounder who has scored over 250 runs in the series, was also out without scoring. Opener Keaton Jennings made 23. Cook and Moeen Ali were involved in 73 run partnership for the second wicket. Cook was also involved in 60 run partnership with Jennings for the first wicket.

For India, fast bowler Ishant Sharma took 3/28 in 22 overs while Bumrah took 2/41 in 21 overs. Spinner Jadeja took 2/57 in 24 overs. Shami could not take a wicket but he conceded only 43 runs in 22 overs. Sharma bowled 10 maiden overs while Bumrah bowled 9 maidens. Shami bowled 7 maiden overs.
