Patna : England were 170/2 in 56 overs in their first innings at tea on Day 2 in first Ashes test against Australia at Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK, 2 on August 2, 2019, with opener Rory Burns batting on 82 in 176 balls hitting 12 fours and Joe Denly unbeaten on 9. It was Burns’ third fifty in tests. England trail by 114 runs.

Resuming at their overnight score of 10/0, England lost their first wicket at22 when opener Jason Roy fell to fast bowler James Lee Pattinson for 10. But, Burns, 28,  and captain Joe Root, 28, added 132 runs for the 2nd wicket. Root fell to fast bowler Peter Siddle for 57 in 119 balls with 6 fours when the score was 154. England scored 99 runs in the second session of the play on Day 2 losing the wicket of Root.

Australia had scored 284 in their first innings on Day with Steven Smith scoring 144 runs, his 24th test century.
