Patna : England were 145/2 in 59 overs on the first day of first Ashes test against Australia at Brisbane Cricket Ground ( woolloongabba), Brisbane, Australia, on November 23, 2017, with J Vince unbeaten on 83 and J Root on 7 not out. For Australia, fast bowler Mitchell Starc had taken 1/37 in 16 overs while Pat Cummins had taken 1/43 in 14 overs. Australia’s much vaunted pace attack failed to trouble the England batsmen on a pace friendly Gabba pitch although Australian captain Steve Smith had warned them of a torrid time at the crease.
