Patna : England, who were all out for 342 in their first innings in the first session of the play on the second day of 1st cricket test against Sri Lanka (SL) at Sylhet International Stadium, Sylhet, Sri Lanka, were 38/0 at stumps with openers Keaton Jennings and Rory Burns batting on 26 and 11 runs respectively.

In between, Sri Lanka were all out for 203 in their first innings post-tea the same day with all-rounder Angelo Mathews scoring 52 with 3 fours, Captain Dinesh Chandimal 33 with 3 fours, and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickewella with 3 fours. England spinners Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, and Jack Leach accounted for 8 Sri Lanka wickets. Moeen Ali took 4/66 while Rashid took 2/30 and Leach 2/41. James Anderson and Sam Curran took one wicket each. England lead by 177 runs with three days left and 10 wickets in hand.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 321/8, England were all out for 342 in their first innings bjut before debutant wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, 25, completed his century. He was the last England batsman to get out for 107 in 202 balls with 10  fours. For Sri Lanka, spinner Dilruwan Perera, 36, took 5/75 while pacer Suranga Lakmal took 3/73. Akila Dananjaya and Rangana Herath took one wicket each.
