Patna : Replying to Australia’s first innings total of 327 in 119 overs, England were 192 /2 in 57 overs at stumps on the second day of fourth Ashes test, Boxing Day test, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne, Australia, on December 27, 2017, with former Captain Alastair Cook batting on 104, his 32nd century, in 166 balls hitting 15 fours and Captain Joe Root unbeaten on 9 in 105 balls hitting 6 fours, an unbeaten stand of 112 runs. England trail by 135 runs.
It was Cook’s first century in the ongoing Ashes series and fifth overall in Australia. Opener Mark Stoneman was out for 15 with the England score reading 35 while James Vince was out for 17 when the score was 80.
Earlier, resuming at their overnight 244/3, Australia were all out for 327 with England fast bowlers Stuard Broad taking 4/ 51, James Anderson taking 3/61 and Chris Woakes taking 2/72. Tom Curran took 1/65. Australia Captain Steven Smith was out for 76 in 156 balls hitting 8 fours while Shaun Marsh was out for 61 in 148 balls hitting 8 fours. Tim Paine scored 24 and Mitchell Marsh 9. Opener David Warner had made 103 on December 26.
